Traveling to Santa Fe - Your First Morning Breakfast Stop

We are road-trippers. One of my family's favorite destinations is Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am a bit partial because I am married to my own personal guide. This is his hometown. This is a twelve hour drive for us. We love to go, explore and eat! It's no fun to me to travel to some great place and then try to save money by making my own meals. The food is definitely part of the experience. I hope sharing our experiences make your trip the best!

There is so much good food in Santa Fe, be sure to check this one out:

The Famous Plaza Cafe - at the Plaza location (there is also a South location) is a must for breakfast. It's been around for over a hundred years. Santa Fe is one of two oldest cities in the US, so this really isn't that old for them. The Blue Corn Pinion (pine nuts) pancakes are AMAZING! These are worth the trip alone. I would share them & get a side of protein. Their thick bacon is excellent. I don't know where they get this stuff. Mexican mochas are wonderful but pretty sweet so you may want to share that too. Fresh-squeezed OJ? -But of course. This is a classic diner. It's very clean and sits right on the Plaza which is the center of town and a fantastic location for people watching. Be sure to peruse the dessert case before leaving, you will see delectable sweets made from family recipes.

I suggest going here early in your trip so you'll have time to re-visit. Afterwards walk around the plaza and check out the array of beautiful handmade turquoise jewelry.

  1. I love trying new places especially gems like this! NM has not hit our travel guide yet, but it will be. I have a few friends there and it is warm, so I am sure I would love it! Can't wait to read more about NM!

  2. Trying food in new places is one of the best parts to traveling! I am always up for trying new goods. This place, The Plaza sounds incredible! You sound like you and your family really enjoy this place a lot. I grew up going to Colorado with my family so I understand how one place can have such a happy impact on your life. I hope to make it to Santa Fe someday!

  3. The food sounds incredible! I have to be honest, my family is definitely the conservative type that pinches pennies even when on vacation; therefore, we are the ones going to the local supermarket and buying groceries to cook our own meals. I would definitely love to be able to go out and try new things though. This sounds very enjoyable, and how cool to have your own tour guide. That must make the trip very nice.

    1. I like to justify the dining out because we drive and save our pennies by not flying. :)

  4. Reading your experiences about Santa Fe reminded me that I visited Albuquerque when I was about 6...suffice it to say I remember none of the trip. But if I keep reading these blogs I really just might make my way back to NM to see what I've been missing. And I totally agree, eating the food of the locals is definitely half the fun of traveling! Cooking is a chore reserved for home, lol

  5. We were thinking about taking the kids to New Mexico to visit the Mountains and Nationals Parks there. We still will take a road trip to NM in the next few years and visit other places while on the way there and back..
