About an
hour north of Santa Fe is Taos, where you can find the famous Taos Pueblos. The
main part of the present buildings were most likely constructed between 1000
and 1450 A.D. They charge around $16 to walk around and take pictures. Since
the pictures are for personal use only. I will include a picture of the painting
my grandmother (my husband’s grandmother – though I claim her too) did of the Taos
pueblos. http://taospueblo.com/home/
You may also enjoy a half-day river rafting trip on the Rio Grande. It's not
like rafting on the Colorado, so it's much calmer, but it's the Rio Grande! These
waters are better when you are taking along first-timers or those with
children, though not too young. For about $60 each you can spend a half day on
the water with a guide. It's great fun.
I will add this place to my bucket list because I plan to travel to places in the US-first to see some of the historical places and learn about that history. The first place on my places to visit in regards to historical sites is St Augustine which is the oldest city in the United States. We like to take road trips so we may visit Taos first since it closure than St Augustine GA.
ReplyDeleteWe love St. Augustine also. We've only been once but I love to watch the drawbridge and all the colorful sailboats. St. Augustine and Santa Fe are the oldest cities in the US.
DeleteThat's pretty cool that they allow pictures to be taken of the art work. I visited the Museum of Oklahoma over the summer and they had a really cool artwork display of actual pictures taken from the Tulsa bombing of around 1920, however they didn't allow for any pictures to be taken at all. Taos seems like a pretty cool place to frequent.
ReplyDeleteThis painting hangs in my home as my husband's grandmother painted it. She was a fine artist. She turns 98 next week, she doesn't paint anymore but she's a lovely lady!
DeleteThis looks like so much fun. You're making me want to book a trip right now. I've always wanted to go river rafting.
ReplyDeleteThis means I am fulfilling my purpose with this blog....I am conveying our love of this part of the Southwest!
DeleteI think rafting would be a lot of fun! I have only went canoeing a couple times down at the Lake of the Ozark's. That painting by your grandmother, is BEAUTIFUL and so detailed. My great grandmother and grandfather were painters. I still have the first canvas she painted for me when I was born, that I still need to find a new frame for!
ReplyDeleteOh, Missouri has great rivers for canoeing, it's been so long for me. I love that too! Our grandmother has plenty of grandkids and great grandkids so we feel pretty lucky to have this painting, it is one of our favorites.
DeleteYes, find a frame for that painting, it's so wonderful to have these special memories in hard copy.
Wow! You have some of the best vacations. How wonderful it must be to see different parts of the world. You inspire me to travel more and stop working so much. Thank you for reminding me there is more to life than work.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been there before, hopefully one day i will.
